Hi, I'm Katie

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker whose mission is to support individuals to navigate challenges in a manner that allows them to feel authentic, capable, and safe. I have provided extensive counseling services to teenagers, adults, and family members in the Atlanta area for more than 6 years, using various modalities to accomplish mutually agreed-upon goals with my clients.

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology at Emory University in 2014, before completing my Master of Social Work in 2016 at the University of Georgia. I began my career as a therapist at Beyond Words Center, where I spent more than 3 years providing parent training and facilitating individual, group, and family therapy that addressed a wide range of concerns including those related to anxiety, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, stress management, and emotional and behavioral regulation. I transitioned to private practice in 2019, where I have continued to provide individual and family therapy in a manner that integrates my training in evidence-based therapies with a client-centered focus.

I prioritize the comfort and originality of my clients in the therapy process, so my approach moves at a collaborative pace that is based on the strengths and uniqueness of my clients. I enjoy employing elements of artistic expression, imagination, and humor while, through a compassionate and dynamic lens, aiming to instill hope and promote growth in my clients.

I serve the areas of Decatur, Atlanta, and Avondale Estates.

What to Expect at Step Forward Counseling

When they come to therapy, I want my clients to feel seen - like I’m someone who genuinely understands them as individuals. Throughout our sessions, my focus is on helping individuals feel they can trust me as they are comfortable being themselves. Starting therapy can feel like a daunting process, so I’m there to listen and keep my clients as the focus of the therapy session; they are never going to be forced to open up or talk about anything until they truly feel ready. Once we have established the relational element of therapy, I consistently check in with clients to make sure we are focusing on goals that are important to them and that they are getting their needs met through therapy. Feedback is an important part of the therapy process, so sharing it with my clients is just as important as it is for me to receive it.

My values

Awareness & Growth

Self-awareness and growth are highly important values to me. As human beings, we have to address our strengths as much as our weaknesses so that we can become the best versions of ourselves as individuals, members of society, and interpersonal beings. This is became especially important to me after going through my own counseling as a teenager, and facilitated the development of a skillset to help others evolve as I was able to.

Trusting Relationships

I recognize the value of having trusting relationships in our lives. Humans are built for connection, and everyone deserves to have at least one person in their life who they feel understands and supports them. It’s important to me to provide that type of relationship for clients, but to also help them identify where those relationships might also already exist in their lives.
